Claude subscription guide

Pro on your own Anthropic account: what the sign-up actually gates on, and why this one is arranged by hand rather than automated.

What usually blocks the sign-up?

Two gates, in this order: receiving the verification code, and having a card the processor accepts. The first one stops more people than the second, and it is the cheaper one to solve — a one-time overseas number is a couple of yuan.

Worth knowing before you start: the account you verify is the account the subscription lands on. Sorting out which identity you actually want to keep is easier now than after you have paid.

Why is this one arranged by hand?

Because the automated top-up channel we use runs against OpenAI, not Anthropic. Rather than dress a manual process up as an instant one, the order page says so: after payment clears we email you within one business day to agree how it will be done.

The practical consequence is that this one is not instant. That is a real cost and it belongs on the page, not in the small print.

Is a shared Claude account a reasonable shortcut?

It is cheaper and it is a different product. On an account you do not own you cannot rotate the password, cannot see the other sessions, and your conversation history sits somewhere you have no claim on.

For throwaway experiments that may not matter. For anything you would be unhappy to lose or to have read, it does.

How do I cancel later?

In your own account settings, the same as any subscription you started yourself. Nothing routes back through us, and we do not need to be told.

That is the part worth checking against any provider before you pay: if cancelling requires going back through the seller, you did not buy a subscription — you bought access to theirs.

Where this leaves you

If the card is the part that is blocking you, that is the part we sell — see the Claude plan for the price and what it needs from you. If it is not blocking you, subscribing yourself is cheaper and we would rather say so.
